We Are Outsourcing Our Humanity to AI

Don’t Let AI Tell Your Story This week I was guest on the podcast “ Black Belts and Boardrooms” hosted by executive leaders Amir Khawaja and Renard Henry. I shared my journey in corporate and part of our conversation is the how much we are all using AI to tell our story. (will share the link when it goes Live)
Which s collective insanity in my opinion. AI can not and should not tell your story. Full stop!
AI slop is a virus that has infected every social platform with no signs of slowing down. It seems we has human beings have simply given our agency and our story over to AI.
Why?
Because it’s faster, more succinct, and or smarter. Nope! The biggest reason is efficiency and time.
However, if you want a one way ticket to not having any original thoughts then keep asking whichever AI tool you used to tell your story.
Here’s the thing:
AI can’t share the nuance of learning to ride a bike at 8-years old and the pain of falling off your pink bike in front of friends on the block.
AI can’t describe the feeling of first day jitters at your first corporate job right after college graduation
AI can’t tell the story of losing a parent as a teenager and how it almost broke you, but shaped you to become the top executive in your industry.
Our tradition of telling stories is how we humans communicated, survived, and preserve our culture and mores.
The very thing that is in our DNA we’ve seemingly outsourced it to Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or (insert AI platform).
Don’t get me wrong, AI has its place. I use it for strategy and research, but I don’t use it to tell my story. It’s my story.
The good, the bad, the cringe, the WTF, the heartbreak, the fear, the self reflection it’s all MINE.
Life is Messy, That’s The Point
If we leverage AI to clean up our stories, what we have left is watered down, homogeneous, and boring AF.
Who the heck wants a perfect story or even a life because as we know, No One Is Perfect. That’s what makes the human experience truly one of a kind.
Tell me Everything, I want all the tea!
Not an AI generated version of your life that is dull and tailored, according to prompts you learned from your two-day Google AI prompting course. No shade.
Being Human
In our fast paced society where content is king, how do we stop relinquishing our identities and stories to AI?
Here’s what I know works for me:
Journal every day. Even if it’s only for five minutes. Writing or typing works. This will help you to hone your story
Go back to actually reading. Try before bedtime or in the morning if time permits
Get curious about your life and the world around you. Learn more about the arts, history, or travel through in person interactions
Don’t be afraid to be bored or to look at a blank screen. Boredom leads to creativity.
Lean into what makes you, You. Your experiences, expertise, background etc.
When you write your content, write with your full human quirks, don’t sanitize it. ( I’ve noticed recording or filming my content first helps me to remain authentic )
“In the age of AI, automation, and algorithms, our task is to become more human.”
